About Chris Cavert and FUNdoing
Chris Cavert officially opened FUNdoing for business in January 2000. The FUNdoing team includes my wife Susana and me. Our company provides adventure-based activity resources - training, books, and equipment - for facilitators, educators and trainers who utilize adventure-based programming for community building. I have been active with groups of all ages for over 25 years. My purpose has always been to help adult youth educators use adventure-based activities to develop and enhance pro-social community skills and behaviors with the youth populations they work with. Since 1995 I have had the privilege to contribute 13 books to the field and present hundreds of workshops and training's around the United States and the World. Some notable conferences and training's include:
  • International Association for Experiential Education Conference - AEE
  • The International Challenge Course Symposium and Conference - ACCT
  • A number of regional AEE Conferences.
  • The Texas Experiential Ropes Association Conference.
  • The Kansas TOTO Experiential Education Conference.
  • 12 National Challenge Course Practitioners Symposiums.
  • The Jackson's Ridge International Missionary Training Workshops, South Africa.
  • Jerusalem International YMCA Play for Peace Training, Israel
  • The National Dropout Prevention Conference.
  • The Association for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance National Conference.
  • Several State Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance Conference.
  • The Southern Association of Episcopal Schools in Texas.
  • The Southwest Texas Association of Executives of Homes for Children.
  • The East Texas Network for Children.
  • The Mary Lee Foundation Childcare Workshops in Kansas.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, K-12 Teaching, from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and a Masters Degree in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University at Mankato, specializing in curriculum development. Currently I'm working on an Educational Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. I have also had the opportunity to author six adventure-based activity focused books and have co-authored seven others - including one with my wife:

  • The E.A.G.E.R. Curriculum
  • Games (& other stuff)for Group, books 1 & 2
  • Affordable Portables: A Workbook of Activities and Problem Solving Elements.
  • What Would It Be Like?: 1001 Anytime Questions for Anysize Answers;.

For additional information on each book, check out the Books page. The intent of my books has been, and always will be, to share activities that help educators, in many different fields, use Adventure-Based Activity Programming to encourage pro-social community behaviors in the groups that they work with. My dream is that these books will help change the world - making it a better, and more fun, place to be!

I have also had the opportunity to have a couple stories published in two of the best selling “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series books by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen and a variety of my adventure-based activities have been published in books by Karl Rohnke, Jim Cain & Berry Jolliff, and Simon Priest, Sam Sikes & Faith Evans.

Susana and I met in Dallas Texas when we were both teaching at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. Susana, originally from Spain, taught Spanish at Good Shepherd for 10 years. During her final year there she was noted in Who's Who among America's Teachers. Before teaching in Dallas she was the manager of a private retail store for five years. Today she brings her managerial skills, creative talents, and Spanish expertise (activity books soon to be in Spanish) to the FUNdoing team. Officially she is our office and sales manager. So, if you need to call us for any reason she would most likely be on the other end of the phone. Susana also has her own massage therapy business. After the long hours in the FUNdoing office she still finds time to fit in massages. She's also one heck of a cook. So, if you're ever in Flagstaff looking for a massage and a good meal give us a call! In any case, Susana and I are here to assist in your adventure-based activity programming needs. Please let us know how we can help.

"We have had so much fun learning activities from people all over the world and we have been fortunate enough to be able to share our findings with others. Along the way we have also made some activity discoveries of our own and have learned the value they have for others. We couldn't imagine doing anything else! Have fun out there. We sure do." Susana & Chris Cavert
