Professional Development with Dr. Chris Cavert (Beta)
IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE YOU START! Check with the gatekeeper (organization and/or person) that approves your professional development hours before working through any these experiences or courses (coming soon). You can send them the specific Outline (below) of the PD exercise(s) you intend to complete - the outline will have my contact information if they want to find out more.

- Within a week you will receive feedback and a certificate of completion (if requirements are met) from Dr. Cavert.
- SEND TO: [email protected]
Requirements for Decoding Activities
- Use one of the Activity Decoding Worksheets provided below (Word or PDF format) for each specified activity you are decoding.
- If you want to print the Worksheet and write out your information, scan (good apps for the phone) and send completed work.
- Use the Text Box feature in your Adobe (PDF) reader to add information to the PDF Worksheet.
- Using Word? You know what to do. (I would love it if you could send back your docs in PDF form - but, this is not required!!)
- Page 1: At least 12 of the categories (bold headings) must be filled in with relevant information - if you do all 16 you are learning even more. (Specifics on some of the categories are included below.)
- Page 2: There must be enough information included on this page to lead the activity. Want it to be exceptional? Write information here that (almost) anyone could read and then lead. (We're talking a person you would put in front of your group if you were not there.)
- Send in all four decoded activities at the same time. They do not have to be in one file (but, they can be). You can attach four separate files.
Some Category Information (Enough to get you thinking - not enough to answer all of your questions, most likely.)
Part of your learning here is to answer some of your own questions. Another part is the thinking process you use to understand team building activities. If you leave something blank, you may come back to it later - just keep thinking!)
If you have any questions about the other categories, please feel free to email me: [email protected]

- Activity Objective(s): This is the end result of the activity (product oriented goal), or, a goal you (or the group) wants to accomplish during the activity (process oriented goal). Examples: Everyone in the group must get from here to there (product). Everyone will take a turn leading the group during the activity (process). Record the fastest possible time doing this (product). Solve this challenge without talking (process). What is the group challenged to do?
- Facilitated Objective(s): These are the reasons why, you the facilitator, are using the activity with your group. In other words, what are you hoping they experience and learn during the activity? Examples: Communicating appropriately (concept). Leading and Leadership (concepts). Verbally sharing information with each other (behavior). Appropriate physical help - offering a hand of support (behavior).
- Universal Design Considerations: If you know about Universal Design, fill in this category (can the activity be appropriate for ALL abilities? As many as possible?). Don't know about Universal Design? Interested? Do a little research. In a (very simplistic) nutshell, it's about how you set up and lead the activity with a group of diverse abilities. As I say it to my students, "Set up your activities to reach as many abilities as possible."
- Source: If the activity snippet does not have source information, simple site the Blog source and date.
- Completed By: This is you - if, you in fact, did the completing!
